Marine Spill Kits

OPA90 Marine Spill Kits

Under the USA 1990 Oil Pollution Act (OPA90), oil tankers and vessels must carry spill kits able to handle spills of a certain size.

  • Tankers less than 12 metres (400 feet) must have a Spill Kit on board to handle a 7 Barrel (1,100 Litres) oil spill.
  • Tankers greater than 12 metres (400 feet) must have a Spill Kit on board to handle a 12 Barrel (1,900 Litres) oil spill.
